Lying awake

Here is a new one I wrote. rather rough, needs some sparkle still...

While this old city is under stars

I lie awake, wonder where you are

Fire dances with the old north wind

Took my chances on you again

The years have been so kind to you

Don’t know what my life’s coming to

While I rode those empty railways

You went and chased your own freeways

Now here I am, waiting for you

Find some new place worth running to

I fight my darkness, don’t know how

To find your light and settle down

You know my secrets, like a child

You’re a stray flower, growing wild

While this old city is under stars

I lie awake wonder where you are

Gentle breeze in the morning sun

Awakens me, the dark is done

I call out for you, no one there

Searching for you is such a dare

Think I saw you in pouring rain

Evening storms that we can’t explain

You take my hand, lead me on home

I take the wheel, still have to roam

Now here I am, waiting for you

Find some new place worth running to

I fight my darkness, don’t know how

To find your light and settle down

You know my secrets, like a child

You’re a stray flower, growing wild

While this old city is under stars

I lie awake wonder where you are
