Shine

Shine

Sterling lines on  the roadway

Like a thousand twinkling stars

And you tried to make me stay

In those winter days of ours

Now my time is almost spent

My hand was never enough

It’s hard to say what I meant

Was it a rook or a bluff?

So put me in a pine box

The sunny side of the ridge

Gather up some river stones

From ‘neath that ol’ covered bridge

Don’t forget to say a prayer

Over this old soul of mine

Promise on your darkest nights

That you won’t forget to shine

Sands fell through the looking glass

On those beaches we made waves

Wildflowers in the sweet grass

Mountain waters where He saves

Took too many a gamble

Turned tables, poor man’s roulette

I tried to change my amble

I was too much in your debt

So put me in a pine box

The sunny side of the ridge

Gather up some river stones

From ‘neath that ol’ covered bridge

Don’t forget to say a prayer

Over this old soul of mine

Promise on your darkest nights

That you won’t forget to shine

Don’t forget to say a prayer

Over this old soul of mine

Promise on your darkest nights

That you won’t forget to shine
