Took a time out west
To quench my angry veins
I was lost at very best
After I’d buried my remains
The steel wheels turn time
Don’t brake for wildflowers
And the rails steal dime
From gypsy travelers
Don’t you accuse that it came easily
Or assume my days are done
Sometimes it’s hard to see
Between the lightening and the sun
Met a girl who saw with seasoned seas
As dark as the blues can get
Spent nights under the aspen trees
Lost her in winter’s roulette
Bridge washed out from snowmelt
So I had to take a turn
Sometimes the hand you’re dealt
Can feel a little stern
Don’t you accuse that it came easily
Or assume my days are done
Sometimes it’s hard to see
Between the lightening and the sun
The nights play host to shooting stars
Heavens as far as you can see
Sway to the songs of boxcars
Aimed for some distant city
Don’t you accuse that it came easily
Or assume my days are done
Sometimes it’s hard to see
Between the lightening and the sun
