Green Beans and Mamaw's Kitchen

Well, I tried. We had several rows of green beans that had bloomed and had put on the start of growing beans. I had been covering them with sheets each night and then allowing them sunshine and rain during the day. It just got too cold for them, but it sure would have been nice if it had worked! We had a lot of beans from the garden, so I am thankful for that. Several more kettles full would have been good, though!
When I was growing up, we had a gardening family. Both sets of my grandparents had very large and bountiful gardens. I remember picking many delicious things from the gardens growing up. They would can and freeze all of the extras and it easily lasted though the winter. My Daddy grew tomatoes. I can still remember the taste of picking them in the summer and how juicy they were! Our garden has done okay and this year has been the best. The weather cooperated and that was a big part of it. I hope to fine tune growing a garden this spring. I love gardening and that is something I never thought I would say. I think the satisfaction of it is addictive.

I wrote Mamaw's Kitchen and Kent and I played around with it until it represented both of our families. So many memories of cooking and food growing up...times sure have changed.... I hope it makes you smile in memory of all of the love grandparents give.
